US President Donald Trump is not expected to make a formal trip to the UK until 2018, government sources have indicated.
Senior figures within Whitehall confirmed that the visit had been pushed back late last night, Politics Home reports, although it is thought a less formal visit could still take place this year "if he is in Europe on other business".
"We couldn't find a suitable date this year, so he will be coming next year instead," the source said.
Trump was expected to make a state visit this summer, but it was cancelled amid fears of protests and following calls from several MPs and London mayor Sadiq
Khan that he not be invited after a series of controversial measures including his travel ban and pulling out of the Paris accord. A series of protests were held earlier this year.
It was reported last month that the tycoon-turned-leader had asked for the visit to be put on hold over fears he would be met with widespread protests.
