Salah Tells Roma He Wants Liverpool Move

 Liverpool had returned to negotiations and that a compromise deal in the region of a £35M transfer fee plus £4M in add-ons was likely, Sky Italia are reporting that Mohamed Salah has informed Roma of his desire to complete the transfer as soon as possible.

This follows shortly after reports in Egypt stated that Salah will “definitely” complete a move to Liverpool this summer, with former Tottenham striker Mido—considered well

connected within the Egyptian game where he currently manages Wadi Degla—saying he believes the deal is all but done.

“Salah will definitely move to Liverpool,” Mido told Egypt’s Kingfut on Tuesday. “It’s just a matter of time. Liverpool’s style of play suits him perfectly, and Klopp’s style will suit him [though] I fear he might not be able to cope with the higher tempo of playing in the Premier League.”

After Salah’s difficulties at Chelsea, that is a concern for many. The player, though, was never favoured by José Mourinho in his time at Stamford Bridge, and he has gained significant experience since leaving England and establishing himself as one of the top goal scoring wingers in Europe.

On paper, at least, there is likely not a wide attacker with a better scoring return heading into his prime years. At least not amongst players who aren’t already at clubs whose current stature exceeds Liverpool. Every transfer is a risk, but if Salah pans out, Liverpool will have found a winger who scores at an elite level.

Last season at Roma, the winger—who turns 25 this week—scored 19 times and recorded a goal involvement every 94 minutes. It’s a return that would set him apart even at striker. That it comes from a winger puts him in another class entirely. Or at least it will if that return translates to England.

If it does, having Salah to one side and Sadio Mané to the other should answer any doubts about Jürgen Klopp’s plans to use multitalented attacker Roberto Firmino as his first choice striker next season. If it doesn’t, it’s still hard to see a clear better option Liverpool could bring in at the position.
