Patrick Stewart drinks Champagne from shoe at Canadian Grand Prix
Sir Patrick Stewart helped Formula One race driver Daniel Ricciardo celebrate nabbing third place at the Canadian Grand Prix by drinking Champagne from his shoe.
Patrick Stewart shoeThe Star Trek icon was given the honour of interviewing the top three on the podium at the Montreal race on Sunday, when British star Lewis Hamilton zoomed past the finish line, taking first place ahead of his Mercedes AMG Petronas teammate Valtteri Bottas and Red Bull Racing driver Ricciardo.
After discussing the big victory with Hamilton, Stewart told him, “It’s a wonderful win, congratulations!”
He then chatted to Bottas, before joining Australian sportsman Ricciardo, who proceeded to show off his signature celebration as he kicked off his right shoe, poured some bubbly in it, and then downed the booze in one go.
The fun-loving 27-year-old then offered Stewart the chance to do the same from his other boot, with the actor happily obliging.
“Cheers!” the 76-year-old smiled as he drank the shoe-full of Champagne
“Good man!” Ricciardo cheered, as an impressed Hamilton remarked, “You see how sweaty his feet are?”
“I don’t care,” a gleeful Stewart replied. “I have made the podium for the first time; I will drink from anybody’s shoe!”
Sir Patrick isn’t the first celebrity Ricciardo has convinced to join him in his trademark toast - Scottish actor Gerard Butler reluctantly agreed to take part in October, when the driver also finished third behind first-placed Hamilton at the U.S. Grand Prix in Austin, Texas. The 300 star has been sober for two decades, so instead of Champagne, he was handed a shoe full of energy drink Red Bull.
