Chinese Super League club Tianjin Quanjian have agreed a £31m (€35m) deal to sign Cologne striker Anthony Modeste.
The deal is composed of a £5 (€6m) loan with a £26m (€29m) option to buy.ianjin had been trying to sign Diego Costa and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from Chelsea and Borussia Dortmund respectively.
West Ham also tried to sign Modeste at the end of last month but had a £20m offer turned down. Modeste scored 25 times in Germany last season.
The Chinese mid-season transfer window opened on June 19 and closes on Friday, July
14.
The market for transfers from overseas has shrunk dramatically by the introduction of 100 per cent government tax on foreign players.
