Arsenal admit transfer defeat to Real Madrid

Arsenal cannot defeat Real Madrid to sign Kylian Mbappe

Arsene Wenger began the summer with magnificent transfer ambition. He lodged an impressive bid for Monaco star Kylian Mbappe, but ultimately it won’t be enough. The Premier League club are ready to give up on their race for the French starlet.
Instead, the Gunners are poised to turn their transfer attention to Alexandre Lacazette. In truth, he was more prolific than Mbappe in Ligue 1 last season, but he doesn’t have the star quality that Mbappe exudes. The Monaco starlet, predictably, seems destined to move to Real Madrid sooner rather than later.

In fairness, Lacazette is a talented player in his own right. He did, after all, score 28 goals in just 30 league matches for Lyon last season. There’s no question
that he has a keen eye for goal that could certainly add to Wenger’s attack next season.
On the other hand, Lacazette is already 26 years of age. The player he is today, is largely the player he will ultimately become. The fact that Mbappe is even in Lacazette’s league at the tender age of 18 proves how much talent he has.
That’s precisely why Wenger identified him as the club’s top summer transfer target. Unfortunately for the Arsenal faithful, it doesn’t seem as if their club were ever truly in the race. While they made an impressive offer of over £80 million pounds for the young centre forward, it never came close to troubling Real Madrid’s bid. Zinedine Zidane’s squad are prepared to pay well over £100 million to bring him to Spain.
